About New Orleans Medical Mission Services
WHO IS NOMMS? OUR VISION: NOMMS is a perpetual organization based on humanitarian values. We rely on volunteers dedicated to providing medical relief to the less fortunate in developing countries. We do this by providing direct medical treatment, donating medical supplies, instruments and equipment to pre-qualified partners, and facilitating the mutual education of NOMMS volunteers and our partners. NOMMS MISSION: To deliver medical expertise and treatment to the underprivileged population of foreign countries by providing services, treatment and supplies, and do so, with dignity and self-esteem to program recipients and participants. OUR HISTORY: NOMMS was founded in 2001 and activated in 2002 by Dr. R. Daniel Jacob, Dr. Thomas Kennedy, Dr. John Montz, Dr. Robert Normand and Frederick J. Mikill, II. A Board of Directors and Advisory Board are appointed annually. Our Boards are comprised of physicians, professionals, medical personnel and business executives. A President, Chief Executive Officer, Vice President, Secretary and Chief Financial Officer manage the organization. The services we provide are surgical missions, donations of medical supplies, medical education, eye exams and dispensing of eyeglasses. Our organization relies on volunteers. As of the end of 2010, NOMMS has provided over $50,000,000 in donated services and has done so with a total annual expenditure of approximately $200,000 a year. The recent average annual donation is approximately $5,000,000. 92% of expenses are for direct program services while 3% is for fundraising and 5% is for administrative/overhead expenses such as insurance, utilities, external audit, etc. NOMMS encourages students to volunteer to earn service hours. In addition, we select medical school students and medical residents to participate in mission trips to better understand providing medical treatment under difficult conditions. Our organization provides structure to deliver much needed services to the poor, while enabling volunteers to be part of a close knit family. |
